A southern favorite, Cleyera japonica is a broadleaf evergreen shrub that makes an excellent border, hedge, screen, or foundation plant. Its glossy new growth emerges with an attractive bronze tint before maturing to a deep lustrous green. In spring, white bell-shaped flowers open and emit a pleasant aroma before developing into reddish-black ornamental fruit.
